My Story

Mr. Wasantha Kumara Withanage’s journey is one marked by dedication, achievement, and a passion for both academia and sports. Born in the vibrant city of Rathnapura, his early years were shaped by his education at Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa. It was here that he first discovered his love for sports, particularly boxing.

After completing his schooling, Mr. Wasantha pursued higher education at the esteemed University of Colombo, where he earned a Special Degree in INR with a remarkable 2nd Upper Class. He furthered his academic pursuits by obtaining a Master’s degree in INR from the same university, showcasing his commitment to academic excellence.

Parallel to his academic endeavors, Mr. Wasantha delved into the world of sports, obtaining a Sports Diploma from the University of Semelswise in Budapest, Hungary. His passion for boxing led him to achieve notable milestones, including becoming a Three-star Coach for the International Boxing Association (IBA) and representing Sri Lanka as an International Technical Officer for the IBA.

His dedication to the sport culminated in his role as the coach for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, a testament to his expertise and leadership in the field of boxing. Beyond his contributions to boxing, Mr. Wasantha also excelled in entrepreneurship, founding and managing Dinuda Resort in 2007.

In recognition of his leadership and expertise, Mr. Wasantha has held esteemed positions such as Chairman of the Boxing Referees and Judges Commission of Sri Lanka, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Boxing Association, and Chairman of the Kalpitiya Hotel Association.

Additionally, he serves as Chairman of the Kundasale Sport Association and Assistant Treasurer of the Kundasale Trade Association, showcasing his commitment to community development and welfare.

As a visiting lecturer at the University of Peradeniya, Mr. Wasantha shares his wealth of knowledge and experience with the next generation, inspiring them to pursue their passions with dedication and diligence.

Throughout his journey, Mr. Wasantha Kumara Withanage has exemplified the values of hard work, perseverance, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on both the academic and sporting arenas.
